Topic 2: Puberty and Physical Health
Describe two ways you can most effectively encourage teens in your class make healthy decisions.
Two ways that you can most effectively encourage teens to make healthy choices are first provide a good example of healthy living, and promote it. The first way to encourage healthy choices is by having breakfast, healthy lunchs, don't drink a ton of pop, or coffee. As well as getting proper sleep. If you are showing the effects of healthy decisions then it may promote them to follow. Secondly, is the promoting and education of healthy decisions. Puberty is a difficult time for teens where they make poor decisions and eat unhealthy. These poor decisions can consist of drug use, under age sex/pregnancy. To counter act this education on the subjects should be given more, rather than the usual "You shouldn't do that". Educate them because it's more than likely going to happen at least once. Provide support if needed. I would have a box of granola bars in my desk and Id ask the students on their way into class if they have had breakfast. If not, Id give them a granola bar, because breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Another thing I could do is provide healthy vegetable snacks to them in class if they get hungry in class. Having healthy food available also makes it more likely for them to eat healthier as said in "12 Ways to Encourage Kids To Make Healthy Eating Choices"
